Among the many cruise ships that are in service, the largest is the Oasis class. The Oasis class was the largest passenger vessels in service when it was built. This ship has since been superseded by the Allure of the Seas. Both of these vessels are owned by Royal Caribbean International, but they differ in design and construction.
Icon of the Seas
There is still plenty to learn about Royal Caribbean’s Icon of the Seas, but you can rest assured that the ship will be bigger and better than any cruise line ship on the seas. When it sets sail in 2024, it will become the largest cruise ship in the world. The new vessel will be able to accommodate 7,600 passengers.
Icon of the Seas is being built at the Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland. It will have a gross tonnage of 250,800, which is almost two-thirds the size of the previous record holder, Wonder of the Seas.
The vessel will have 2,805 staterooms, including seven luxury suites and four premium suites. The ship will have the capacity to carry up to 7,600 guests, plus an additional 2,350 crew members.
P&O Iona
The P&O Iona is the largest cruise ship in the world. It will have a capacity of 5,200 passengers and will be powered by liquefied natural gas. This is the first time that a British cruise ship will be operated on LNG.
P&O Cruises is scheduled to begin sailing its new Iona in 2021. The company is also planning a second megaship for 2022. In September of that year, Iona will be based out of Spain and will be able to sail to the Canary Islands and Northern Europe.
P&O Iona will be equipped with numerous amenities. Some of these include 12 whirlpool spas, six Infinity whirlpool spas, a sauna, and a hydrotherapy pool with massaging jets. There will also be a sports court and a cinema.
Harmony of the Seas
Harmony of the Seas is a Royal Caribbean ship that has won a lot of accolades. For instance, it is the largest cruise ship in the world. It has a capacity of 6,780 passengers and 2,747 staterooms. In addition, Harmony is the third ship in Royal Caribbean’s Oasis class.
The ship has a gross tonnage of 226,963 and an overall length of 1,188 feet. It is also slightly shorter than her sister ships, Oasis and Allure.
The ship is equipped with four 7,500-hp bow thrusters. It can sail at 22 knots. Powered by three Wartsila diesel generators, Harmony is capable of carrying 5,479 passengers at double occupancy.
Harmony of the Seas boasts a variety of activities. Aside from the pools, there are numerous dining venues and entertainment options. There are also seven distinct neighborhoods to explore. One neighborhood is called “Central Park.” It has outdoor dining facilities, as well as a tree-lined, boardwalk.
Costa Smeralda
Costa Smeralda is the largest cruise ship in the Costa Cruises fleet. It has more than 2,600 cabins and has a total gross tonnage of about 185,000 tons. Costa Smeralda is powered by liquefied natural gas, which is a clean fossil fuel that is very environmentally friendly.
The Costa Smeralda’s name is an homage to the emerald coast of Sardinia. It will sail the Western Mediterranean and offers travelers the chance to experience a slice of Italian dolce vita.

The Costa Smeralda’s main entertainment venue is the Colosseo, a three-level piazza-like space. The Colosseo often hosts acrobatic shows. This theater has a seating capacity of over 3000 passengers.
Mardi Grass
Carnival’s Mardi Gras cruise ship is one of the newest ships at sea. This Excellence class ship was built by Meyer Turku in Finland. It will sail Caribbean routes in 2021.
