Sun Country Airlines is an American ultra-low-cost airline that flies to destinations throughout the United States. They also have destinations in Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean. The airline charges for baggage and seat selection, but they do offer free drinks on every flight!
When the company launched in 1998, it positioned itself as an underdog fighting Northwest. Its president, Bill La Macchia, even used ex-wrestler Jesse Ventura to market the airline.
Seat selection
There are a number of ways to select your seat when flying with Sun Country. You can do it at the time of booking or even afterward using the ‘Manage Your Booking’ option on their website. You can also do it during check-in or at the airport. You can select your seats in advance for free if you are traveling with children or anyone who needs special accommodations.
In addition to choosing your seat ahead of time, you can upgrade your Economy ticket to Premium seating for an additional cost. This offers extra legroom, priority boarding, and complimentary food and drinks.
If you are traveling with a small child, be sure to avoid exit row seats or rows directly in front of and behind them. These seats are designed to allow passengers to exit quickly in an emergency. If you are unable to sit in your preferred seat, you can contact customer service and request a different one for no extra fee.
Baggage fees
Unlike most airlines, Sun Country doesn’t charge for carry-on bags. However, there are still some restrictions on the size of the bag. For instance, it must fit under the seat in front of you and be no larger than 24 x 16 x 11 inches. If the bag is too large, you will have to pay for it as excess baggage.
The airline’s baggage fees vary based on your route and the time of purchase. You can choose to pay for your luggage online at the time of booking (cheapest) or later while checking in for your flight. You can also use the airline’s baggage tool to find out the current fees for your trip.
Musical instruments are permitted in a passenger’s checked baggage allowance, provided that they are small enough to fit under the seat and have their batteries removed. Some examples of musical instruments include guitars and tubas. In addition, Sun Country allows passengers to bring service animals on board.
Seating capacity
Sun Country flies to more than 300 destinations, including international locations. Its main airport is Minneapolis/St. Paul, and the airline sees opportunities for growth in markets that don’t have a lot of competition from other airlines. It plans to add five to eight aircraft worth of new routes by 2023.
The company uses Boeing 737-800s with 186 seats in their fleet. These planes are fitted with state-of-the-art seat equipment, which includes seat power outlets and USB ports. Sun Country also offers complimentary beverages, and a variety of Flitebites snacks and alcohol can be purchased onboard.
You can choose preferred seats when you book online or at the airport, but this comes with an extra cost. Preferred seats include Best, Exit Row, and Standard Economy seats. The former two offer more leg room, while the latter has four more inches of space and a steeper recline. Sun Country charges a fee for carry-on bags. However, you can avoid these fees by packing your clothes in a soft bag that can fit under the seat in front of you.
Customer service
Sun Country is a good choice for travelers who can travel light. While it does have fees for additional baggage and seat selection, its prices are lower than those of other budget airlines. It also offers flexible booking policies. You can cancel your flight up to 60 days before departure without any change fees.
Sun Country does not have a business class, but it offers a premium economy experience on most flights. This service includes priority boarding and security lines, larger seats, and free drinks. You can select your seat in advance online or at the airport. The airline uses Boeing aircraft.
In addition to offering a premium economy experience, Sun Country also offers a rewards program. The airline’s loyalty program is ranked second by WalletHub, which evaluates programs on six key factors, including partner coverage, rewards value, earning policies, redemption policies, and other features and policies. The airline is currently evaluating its loyalty program in order to improve it.
