jet blue flights

If you’re looking for a new airline to fly with, you may have heard all the rumors about jet blue flights. Are they really as bad as they’ve been portrayed?

The good news is that JetBlue actually does offer some great features for travelers. Check out our JetBlue flight review to find out how you can get the most out of your next trip!

JetBlue offers more legroom than any other US low-fare carrier, with an average pitch of 32 inches on its A320 fleet and at least 34 inches on its larger ERJ 190s. That’s among the best legroom in economy class globally.

The carrier also offers a specialized economy experience called “Even More Space,” which features several rows of economy seats with extra legroom, and early boarding privileges and even a fast track through security (in select cities). These premium fares can be purchased from JetBlue directly at the time of booking or at check-in.

Meanwhile, American Airlines’ legacy competitors, including Delta and United, offer a standardized 30 to 31-inch pitch on their Airbus A320 fleets in economy. This is a big difference from 15 years ago, when coach passengers could expect 34 inches between seats on American, Delta, and United flights.

Spirit, on the other hand, scrimps out on legroom with an industry-low 28 inches of pitch. The ultra-low-fare carrier flies the popular Airbus A320s but hasn’t restyled them to offer more legroom since the company began a two-phase restyling program in 2018.

Free checked bags

JetBlue flights have a policy of offering free checked bags to customers who pay for their tickets with a JetBlue credit card. This perk is also available to TrueBlue Mosaic members.

In addition, active duty military members on orders can check up to five bags for free when traveling with their dependents. These bags can weigh up to 99 pounds and aren’t subject to overweight bag fees.

The only exception to this rule is if you have an infant under 8 days old. Babies older than 23 months can still bring one personal item under the seat in front of them.

Blue Basic economy fares will only allow passengers to carry on two pieces of hand luggage. The first piece can be large enough to fit in the overhead bin, with a size of no more than 55 x 35 x 22cm, and the second must be small enough to go under the seat in front of you.

Free in-flight entertainment

In-flight entertainment has come a long way in the past few years, and airlines are now providing access to many different types of content. From movies to television shows to music, these options can keep you entertained on a long flight.

Depending on the airline, entertainment is usually offered through seatback screens. Some offer free movies and TV shows, while others may charge for the service.

JetBlue’s newer aircraft feature 10.1-inch touch screens that provide full seasons of on-demand TV plus dozens of movies. Additionally, they offer USB and standard outlet power at least at every row, which can help keep your personal devices charged up on board.

In addition, JetBlue has a partnership with Amazon that will let Prime members stream a slew of movies and shows onboard their planes. It’s not the first time an e-commerce company has entered into an in-flight video partnership, but it’s one of the largest to date.

Mosaic status

Travelers can earn Mosaic status through a combination of spending (with a JetBlue credit card) or flying. You can either fly 30 flight segments or spend $50,000 on a JetBlue credit card during a calendar year to become Mosaic.

A Mosaic member receives up to two free checked bags, complimentary Main Cabin Extra8, free Same Day Flight Change9 and priority boarding, security and dedicated check-in on American-operated flights. These benefits are a great value for travelers who frequently travel with JetBlue.

As a Mosaic member, you get to choose Even More Space seats for free at check-in (subject to availability), which can get you up to 7 inches of extra legroom. This benefit is not offered to AAdvantage members and TrueBlue Mosaic members, but it’s a nice bonus for elites traveling on JetBlue.

Mosaic members also get access to FoundersCard Blue membership, which offers 150+ premium travel, business and lifestyle benefits made exclusively for elites. These perks include the ability to use points to book Mint Studio bookings, including on London flights, and more.
